How long should I wear the sleeping glasses before going to sleep?

To keep it practical and feasible, we often recommend wearing the sleeping glasses at least an hour before going to sleep. Of course, the glasses can also be worn longer, for example 2 hours before going to sleep.

Can I use the glasses in traffic?

No! It is not recommended to use the sleeping glasses in traffic. This is because using the glasses can make you drowsy, which can jeopardize the road safety of yourself and others. If you use public transport, for example after a night shift, we recommend it.

Do I have to wear the glasses until I go to sleep?

You can take off the glasses after turning off the lights in your bedroom.

Will wearing the glasses solve my sleep problems after my night shifts?

The effect of glasses during your shift depends on many factors, such as the timing of their use in relation to the position of your internal biological clock. The position of your biological clock depends on many factors such as: your chronotype such as morning or evening person, the nature of your (shift work) schedule, your sleep history and any jet lag status.

If you have worked one or more night shifts and need to sleep during the day, your biological clock is still in 'day mode' when you try to catch up on sleep during the day. This is called 'circadian misalignment'. Since your brain normally produces very little melatonin during the day and relatively much cortisol (stress/activation hormone), the glasses will unfortunately not completely solve the problem. What our blue light filter glasses can do is help you increase the quality of the first phase of your sleep.

"Blue morning light is good for activating your brain to start the day shift full of energy. However, if you have just returned from a night shift, this blue light is anything but beneficial for the quality of your daytime sleep."

Can I use my smartphone, TV or PC while using the glasses?

Yes, you can still use your electronics. The blue light filter ensures that you will perceive everything with an orange tint. You will naturally get used to this. Please note that even if you use glasses, try to use electronics as little as possible before going to bed. Try to do something relaxing before going to sleep, such as listening to music or reading a book. Try to keep your cell phone out of your bedroom. If you do this, put it in airplane mode.

I use a blue light filter on my computer and phone, do I need the glasses?

Using a blue light filter like F.Lux will only help you partially. Studies have shown that for more than 95% of people, normal room lighting is sufficient to almost completely suppress the production of the night hormone melatonin. We therefore recommend dimming artificial light as much as possible and even switching it off for the best results.

Most common errors in use

You only use the glasses after the night shift:

The glasses work best when you use them both after a day and night shift, preferably 1 to 2 hours before going to sleep. So not just after a night shift! By using the glasses consistently in the evening, the orange glow helps the brain to better prepare for sleep. This Pavlovian reaction only occurs with consistent daily use and improves the effectiveness of your sleep ritual. By also increasing the quality of sleep around the day shifts, you can also ensure that the chance that you start the night shift series with a sleep debt is reduced. This makes you less susceptible to fatigue.

You think the glasses solve all problems with screen use:

Even if you use the sleep glasses, try to limit the use of electronic devices before bedtime as much as possible. Gaming, working and social media keep your brain active for too long in the evening/night. Try to do relaxing activities before bed, such as listening to music or reading a book. In addition to light exposure, there are many other factors that influence your sleep pattern, such as stress, thoughts, poor sleeping habits or depression. If you regularly suffer from sleep deprivation, contact your doctor or a sleep specialist.

Blue light blocking glasses

Ik had al een tijdje een ander model van blue light blocking glasses. Dit was eerder voor overdag om het overmatig schermgebruik wat te counteren. Maar nu ik deze bril 's avonds opzet merk ik pas echt het verschil.

Deze bril blokkeert echt het blauwe licht, ik slaap er ook beter door en hij is nog mooi ook!
